FAQ's

What is the best way to defrost and heat the baby purees?

Place the desired amount in the fridge the night before to defrost or in the morning if you are giving it for supper. Put the puree in a saucepan or small pot on a low heat. Stir until warmed through and serve. Always check the temperature before giving it to your baby.

What is the best way to defrost and heat the toddler/kids meals?

Place the meal in the fridge the night before to defrost or in the morning if you are giving it for supper. Most of the meals can be heated in a pot. Add a little water/milk and stir until heated through. These meals can also be put in the oven until warmed through.

Are the containers microwave safe?

Our toddler containers are microwave safe, however, we do not recommend microwave heating. There are many concerns about the effects of microwave radiation on health and food. Vegetables and other foods lose valuable, cancer-fighting nutrients when cooked in the microwave.  Carcinogenic toxins can be leached from plastic, paper plates or covers and mix with your food. It is best to heat your baby food in a pot. Pop your desired Nutri-Kids cubes into a small pot, add a little filtered water/milk to prevent burning and heat on medium until warmed through. Always check the temperature before feeding it to your baby.

What flour do you use in your toddler meals?

We only use Eureka flour which is unbleached stoneground flour with no additives, preservatives or colourants. We also use butter (no margarine), free range milk and free range eggs.

Do you use wheat or dairy in any of your purees?

Majority of our baby purees are wheat/gluten and dairy free. It will specify under the info tabs whether any of these are in the meal.

Do you cater for kids with allergies?

Yes absolutely. A lot of kids today are sensitive or allergic to dairy, wheat, gluten, eggs, preservatives, colourants and msg’s. Please let us know if your child has any food allergies before ordering and we will try and help wherever we can. Special orders do take a little longer. Please see the letter symbols next to each meal.

Why frozen?

Freezing meals immediately after they have been carefully cooked keeps them tasting fantastically fresh and locks in all the goodness. It’s nature’s way of preserving food. Chilled meals in the fridge lose a lot of their nutrients.

Are your containers safe?

Yes absolutely! We have done a lot of research into choosing the best packaging. For babies we use freezer safe double Ziploc bags. Once steamed/cooked the food is always cooled first before putting into the trays. They are then frozen immediately. The next day they are put into bags. Once cooled the toddler meals are packaged into foil containers and frozen.

Why do you use salt in your meals? Isn’t salt bad for you?

Not all salt is created equal. We use the type of salt (Himalayan salt) that nature intended and believe that using the correct type of salt is actually an important cornerstone to a healthy diet and strong immune system functioning. There is a growing body of evidence that limiting salt in-take can actually have an adverse effect on your health. Don’t just take our word for it, see what some of the greatest minds on nutrition have to say about the matter:

Do you use organic produce?

We do use a few organic products and this is labelled next to the item on our menu. Organic is not always easy to come by and at this stage we prefer to provide a consistent product for our customers so that we don’t disappoint. We also like to ensure that we keep our meals as affordable as possible but if you would prefer organic ingredients for fruit/veg purees, please email us and we will do our very best to create something for you.

When should I introduce solids to my baby?

All babies are different but you can introduce solids any time between 4 and 6 months if you feel your baby is ready. It is best not to rush solids as your babies digestive system isn’t ready for solids until about 6 months. Before 6 months your baby will get everything he needs from his milk. Always consult with your paed or clinic before starting solids.

How do I tell if my baby is ready for solids?

• Baby watches you eat and reaches for food
• Baby leans forward and opens their mouth when food approaches
• Baby can hold their head up and has good head and neck control
• Milk feeds alone no longer satisfies baby
• The ‘extrusion reflex’ disappears

What is the ‘extrusion reflex’?

The extrusion reflex happens when you give baby solid food too early. Baby’s tongue pushes out and the food simply comes straight back out again. This reflex disappears naturally at around six months of age and your baby will be able to push food to the back of their mouth with their tongue.

Does my baby really care about flavor at this age?

Babies and toddlers actually have better tasting ability than adults! They have about 7-10 thousand little buds all over their tongue and mouth. As we get older, we gradually lose these taste buds. So give your baby and toddler different tastes and textures right from the start and this will encourage healthier and varied choices as they grow.

What purees should I start with?

All Nutri-Kids Stage 1 purees are perfect. Just remember to do the 3 day waiting rule to rule out any allergies. The most popular purees to start with are sweet potato, butternut, gem squash, carrots and courgettes. After these you can then move on to any of the other Nutri-Kids stage 1 foods.
